What is a Data Centre?
A data centre is a central server control facility. High speed data communication lines are brought into a very robust building equipped with an emergency generator system and a very reliable air-conditioning system so that around-the-clock monitoring is possible in tight security and safety. This type of facility is drawing attention in the Business Continuity Planning as contingency plan against a large scale blackout or a major natural disaster. The data centre business is very specialised, and with few players. Japan Land’s investments and participation in two data centre projects in Asia have strengthened the Group’s reputation and track record in this arena. Since its entry into the data centre market, the Group has forged important and critical relationships with established global partners and contacts in this business segment, and is now widely regarded as a credible and respected data centre developer and project manager. The data centre market in the Asia Pacific region has been growing. Between 2004 and 2007, the size of the data centre market expanded by 14%. The majority of data centre users are Internet service providers, web portals and content providers, however there is an emerging trend of new users from the public sector and the financial services sector as well as major global business enterprises. The market is poised for future growth as demand for such infrastructure is expected to continue, driven by increasing need for outsourcing IT infrastructure as part of business continuity plans. With its current track record, Japan Land can capitalise on the strong growth potential to grow its market share. |
